Four bearings to choose by

Brussels rents well by the night and well by the year, and far less well in between. Here is how to find your way.

A real kitchen: what separates a month-long stay from a hotel stay.

A real kitchen: what separates a month-long stay from a hotel stay.

01Long stays

Finding furnished accommodation for a month or more

A six-month posting with a European institution. A move whose completion date keeps slipping. A secondment for the length of a project. In each case, the same difficulty.

A hotel becomes wearing, and expensive, beyond a few weeks. A conventional rental means a lease, an inventory, a rental guarantee and buying furniture you will have no further use for. Between these two extremes lies a third option: the aparthotel.

What serviced accommodation changes

An aparthotel combines two things rarely found together: the independence of an apartment and the complete absence of paperwork of a hotel.

You arrive with your suitcases and live normally. A fitted kitchen means you are not eating out every evening. A proper desk means you can work from home. Electricity, water, heating and internet are included, with no account to open or close.

And above all: no three-year lease, no rental guarantee tied up in a blocked account, no joint inventory. You book for as long as you need, and extend if your assignment runs on.

Long stays at Whitlock16

Our eleven studios, from 17 to 51 m², all have a fitted kitchen, a work space and a private bathroom. The interiors were designed by Flamant, in a residential rather than hotel spirit — a difference you feel most when you live there for several weeks.

Access is by personal code and a digital key on your smartphone: you come and go at your own pace, with no reception hours. The Technogym fitness room, the lounge and the garden are freely accessible.

Feeling cramped after a few weeks? Tell us: subject to availability, we can offer you a larger studio. A simple message to the manager is enough to adjust your stay.

02European Quarter

Where to stay near the European Quarter

You are coming to work with the European institutions. The temptation is to aim for Schuman, as close to the Berlaymont as possible. It is rarely the best choice, and it is worth understanding why.

The institutional heart of Brussels is an office district: dense at midday, empty in the evening and at weekends. For a one-day meeting, the location is unbeatable. For a week or more, you do not really live there.

The right balance: close without being inside

Regulars on the Brussels circuit — consultants, permanent representatives, seconded executives — converge on a different solution: an adjacent residential neighbourhood, a few minutes from the institutions, but with trees, a bakery, a park and quiet at night.

Montgomery and boulevard Brand Whitlock: east of the Cinquantenaire, a residential, tree-lined Brussels — quiet, well served, within immediate reach of the institutions by metro or on foot through the park. A rare compromise between professional proximity and quality of life.

The European Quarter, residential version

Whitlock16 occupies 16 boulevard Brand Whitlock, precisely in that pivotal zone: minutes from the institutions, but on the right side of the Cinquantenaire — the side where you hear birds rather than the rue de la Loi.

Access is by personal code and digital key, with no time constraint — a detail that matters when a meeting finishes at ten in the evening or a flight lands at midnight.

03Getting here

Getting to Whitlock16: airport, stations or by car

Arriving in a city you do not know, after a flight or a train, with luggage: this is the moment a stay starts well or badly. Here, without detours, are the best ways to reach 16 boulevard Brand Whitlock.

From Brussels Airport (Zaventem)

By train then metro: the cheapest option. The station is on level -1 of the terminal. Travel to Brussels-Schuman or Brussels-Nord, then continue by metro to Montgomery. By taxi or ride-hailing: a direct journey, about twenty minutes outside peak hours — the option to choose with bulky luggage or after a late flight.

From Brussels-Midi

This is the arrival station for Eurostar, Thalys and TGV. The metro is directly accessible from the platforms, connecting on to Montgomery.

Arriving at any hour

Whitlock16 runs on self check-in: a personal code opens the building and your smartphone acts as the key. You receive this before you arrive. A delayed flight or an overnight train is no problem: nobody is waiting at a reception desk, and you let yourself in whenever suits.

04Aparthotel, hotel or rental?

Three formats, three logics: what to choose in Brussels?

The choice depends above all on one thing: how long you are staying. Here are the real differences, with no special pleading for our own category.

The hotel

The simplest and most regulated option. Its limits appear with time: no kitchen, a space organised around the bed, a room cleaned every day — pleasant for a week, intrusive after a month. The right choice for one or two nights.

The short-term rental

A real home, often more spacious, with a kitchen. The trade-off is inconsistency: quality depends on the owner, check-in can prove awkward and support stays uncertain. In Brussels there is a strict regulatory dimension too.

The aparthotel

It borrows from both: the independence and kitchen of an apartment, the professionalism and reliability of a hotel. A serviced studio, a proper work space, a named contact, a consistent standard, housekeeping on a defined schedule. As good for a few nights as for a long stay: many travellers prefer the independence of a studio from the very first night.
